This area is characterized by its spatial discontinuity, since it includes two sectors of the coast of the Gulf of Nicoya. The union between both coasts is through marine transportation. The Corridor extends from Punta Loros, to the South of Puerto Caldera up to the mouth of the Bongo River.
The main tourism center is the city of Puntarenas, which also operates as a lodging, distribution, connection, and tour center. Other tourism centers are Tambor and the city of Cóbano with a potential nature. The latter does not have an adequate tourism offer, but it is possible to foresee its transformation into a distribution and connection center since the distance of more than 8 kilometers from the coast would not let it play the role of a lodging center. The main islands int he Gulf, which are connected through different marine routes, are one of Costa Rica's newest products, which conveniently exploited could generate a new image for the Country, besides diversifying the product. The islands of San Lucas, Chira, Tortuga and, even though it is geographically outside of the Gulf, the Isla del Coco, which is an high-level attraction of the Costa Rican tourism product, stands out.
The area from Playa Naranjo to Cabo Blanco includes two protected areas: the Curú Wildlife Refuge and the Cabo Blanco Absolute Reserve. It also has some marshes in good condition such as: the Organos Marsh, the Paquera Marsh, and the Cabo Blanco Marsh.
The other attractions of the sector are beaches, among which we can mention: Playa Organos, Playa Montezuma, Playa Cocal, Playa Colorada, Playa Naranjo, Playa Gigante, Playa Cabuya, and Playa Tambor.
The development is characterized mainly by high-comfort hotels that operate under the concept of "All-inclusive" and complementary offers are very scarce.
