6 Week Immersion

Hola!

My name is Katherine and I just finished a 6 week immersion course with homestay. What an awesome experience! I am back home in Boston and still trying to process everything while adjusting to responding in English and not Spanish.

I am happy to report that with a lot of studying and speaking to everyone and anyone I have progressed a level and feel comfortable communicating in the language. The test was when I got off the plane and my first instinct was to greet my mom in Spanish- I had to think in order to speak English!!

My objective is to continue studying on my own and finish up the grammar that I have not yet covered. Spanish will be a lifelong goal for me and while it will take years before I am fully proficient I am no longer daunted by the challenge of learning another language. It is feasible for anyone as long as you put forth the effort. I would love to return to Costa Rica next year as I believe the only way to learn a language is to fully immerse yourself in the culture.

My homestay family was wonderful and not only did I love the family and the food but the constant Spanish at home whether I understood everything or not was beneficial to my language comprehension. I have their contact information and hope to stay in touch until I return.
