HOMESTAY PROGRAM AT ACADEMIA DE ESPAÑOL D'AMORE

Students participating in the homestay program while studying in ACADEMIA DE ESPAÑOL D’AMORE can be assured that their stay with a Costa Rican family will prove to be an enriching cultural exchange. Our past students have expressed that this program is one of the best aspects of the school. The homestay program begins the first day of class and finishes the Saturday after your last class. Students must leave the family at 12:00 noon that Saturday unless cleared by the school.

We would like to give a few guidelines to guarantee that this experience will be as positive as possible for the families and students involved.

As a guest with a Costa Rican family you will be treated as a member of the family having breakfast and dinner with them at the established times that the families eats. Meals will be typical Costa Rican dishes. If you require any special dietary needs (vegetarian, dislike of certain foods) please inform the family at the beginning of your stay. It would be a nice gesture to offer to wash the dishes at times. It is important to advise the family in advance if it is not possible to arrive on time for dinner. If you plan on inviting a guest for dinner please ask for permission first.

Laundry service is provided with the homestay program twice a week, although, as a member of the family, you are required to maintain your bedroom clean. Overnight guests are strictly prohibited. Participating in the homestay program you should realize that you are not staying in a hotel and should adhere to the family’s values and rules. You will receive a key to the home and will be free to keep your own schedule.

It is important to know that in Costa Rica, telephones are extremely expensive, therefore no phone calls should be made from the home except if it is cleared by the family.

On a final note, you will become aware of the friendliness and warmth that Costa Ricans naturally give. By living with a Costa Rica family you will experience a truly exceptional cultural and linguistic exchange. Enjoy!
